A Brief Summary
Japanese literature was massively influenced by Chinese culture, poetry, and writing. However, Japan’s extensive and unique culture helped to develop its own style of literature. One example is that many Japanese writers had western culture experiences in their past life. This gave a new modern style to their own writing, yet keep preserving many of its cultural elements. This is evident upon reading the short story Farewell to Manzanar, which exemplifies the heavy western influence on an anecdote explaining the struggles of a Japanese family in the U.S. shortly after Pearl Harbor. The two authors explain their harsh experiences and interactions in poverty struck towns all over the country. In today's 21st century modern day world, there has been a noticeable rise in manga and anime in Japanese literature. These styles of writing infused with eye-catching drawings are what make it so popular in today’s youth in Japan as well as in the U.S, though this might seem as a decline in the authentic quality of literature in Japan. It brings influential bonds in relationships from the two sides of the world, better preparing our upcoming generation for international economic and political bonds that immeasurably build and differentiate societies in a positive way.
In this presentation, we will convey the elements of culture such as religion, culture, ethnicity, food, music, etc. and connect it to the progress of literature in the country. Furthermore, we will also be analyzing several famous works of Japanese authors and explaining their role in transforming Japan into one of the finest global empires today. Overall, this will provide an insight into the world of Japanese culture and literature.
